To Darrin Hudson

The Complete Works of jeffstaple.

My Photo
Name: jeffstaple
Location: New York, New York, United States

I think everyone had a "Darrin Hudson" in their lives. Darrin Hudson was in my high school, back in Marlboro, NJ. You know, that person that you had to one-up all the time. Didn't matter what it was: Gear, hair, grades, sports, whatever...it was ON. Well for Darrin and I...it was kicks. Plain and simple. Oddly enough, in a school with over 1000 kids, me and him were the only 2 really into sneakers back then. This is my blog dedicated to Darrin. This is to tell Darrin that I'm still out there, and if he wants to battle, here it is son!! Bring it!! I've since lost touch with Darrin, but thanks to him, you all get to check out the kicks I have amassed over the years. So it is here, that I will archive every pair of shoes I own. It’ll include detailed photos, a grading system, a little tidbit behind each one and every single one will be available for purchase. (Simply POST A COMMENT with your offer). Some other little goodies sprinkled throughout also. Even if I updated a different shoe every week, it would take me about 3 years to complete this project. So sit back and enjoy! The project begins January 1st, 2006...

PREPARRATIONS.

parra-house-studio.gif

On June 7th, I am pleased for Reed Space to host the first New York solo exhibition of 31 year old Dutch artist, Parra. You might be familiar with Parra's work from his clothing line, Rockwell. Here are some sneak peeks for now. Due to the demand for his prints, we will be offering a presale period between now and the opening. Email mrreed@stapledesign.com for more information.

WRONG STORE.

wrongstore1.gif

Always really interesting to see new concepts in retail. This is simply called The Wrong Store. It was organized by Tobias Wong and Josee Lepage. Josee and I go WAY back. When I had my first job out of college at this design firm in SoHo called c.i.t.e. design. It was a pleasant surprise to run into her again. There's a funny surprise about this store that I think you must physically go there in order to experience it. Check it out.

CULT.

product-165.jpg
There's a new home for ladies who appreciate the best in street culture. It's Cultist Shop. One of the founders, Yasi, has her pedigree from Digital Gravel, Reed Space, The Hundreds and Miss Behave so you know its gotta be at least way above mediocre. All the ladies in the house "Yeah!".

And in sporting news...
nrfallstar25s.jpg
Damien from Zune did a great job making these NRF All Star Edition AF25s. They come in every reptile skin possible and are blessed with a special gold embroidered "NRF07" logo. Hotness for the ball courts.

nbstingray.jpg
Also want to shout out to NB JPN for blessing me with these ST33 Stingray Editions. They go very along side the Orange Fish editions hikmet hit me off with.

STPL.jpg
And keep a look out this summer for the drop of my Mountain Dew special edition bottle. Its kind of weird...to design something as commodity based and simple as a soda bottle. But I must admit, there is some satisfaction in drinking out of something that has your logo on it. I told the people at Mountain Dew that quite honestly, you have a 1% chance of pulling this off in a cool manner. And a 99% chance of doing a corny job. I gotta hand it to them, it looks great. The website looks great also and I'm glad to have been part of such a talented group. And I didn't just get paid to say that either. Maybe.

DELIVERY 3. (Part 3-The Visionaries)

These 5 collaborators represent the last batch of individuals that I have worked with on the 10th Anniversary collection. Like how I used to save the mashed potatoes for the end of dinner...the best comes last. This collection is special not only because of what they possess as individuals...but what REALLY sets them apart is their ability to shake the ground they walk on. Their actions are not subjected to their hood/city/state/country. They operate on a universally global level. The earth is their stage and everyone watches their every move. I like to say these people are your favorite tastemaker's, favorite tastemaker. This group is so cool, they're nerds. So white hot, that it's freezing cold. Cream of the crop. Allow me to proudly introduce them....

johnjaytee.jpg
Since I can remember, I have been cutting Nike ads out of magazines and putting them on my bedroom wall, locker, and Trapper Keeper (remember those!?!). When I entered Parsons School of Design, my first choice of major was Industrial Product Design. But when my counselor took a peek at my apartment walls and saw Nike ads EVERYWHERE, she said "You don't belong in Product. You belong in Communication Design." So without even knowing, John Jay already had changed the course of my life. John is currently Executive Creative Director of Wieden+Kennedy which means he is responsible for a lot of decisions you are making on what to buy and what not to buy. Jordans vs Iversons? Coke vs Pepsi? Sportscenter vs Local News? Nike vs Adidas? Nokia vs LG? Sharp vs Pioneer? You'd be surprised to know one man and one company is behind all of this. A little scary right? Well good thing John is one of the good guys. He is a supporter of independent arts, culture and the entreprenurial spirit, especially amongst minorities. I grew up idolizing John without even knowing it. Then I went to design school and studied his achievements. Then we work together directly and indirectly for companies like Nike and Brand Jordan. Then his son and his best friend are in MY class at Parsons. Then we're sharing a stage together at the AIGA in NY. Does life get any cooler than this? John Jay was issued the anagram FLESH/SHELF. It was interesting to me, this idea of peddling wares, gear, clothes, kicks etc...When you're given the job of how to make products fly off a shelf, its interesting how different people approach similar goals.

bobbitotee.jpg
Is there anything that Bobbito Garcia cannot do? When I was in high school, Friday morning was rough for me. Why? Because you can bet that every Thursday night; I was up till 4am listening to WKCR / 89TEC9 with Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito The Barber with my finger on the pause button of my tape deck. You can also bet I was at every Rocksteady Anniversary event he hosted back in the day. Fast forward a few years and I'm starting this little t-shirt thing called Staple. Bob has a store in the East Village (3-2-3 East 9th St! Coconut Custard Pie!) called Bobbito's Footwork. And as the legend goes, little asian dude shows big puerto rican dude catalog. Puerto Rican dude shits all over Asian dude's catalog and I...I mean...this asian dude walks out of the store in tears because his idol just sonned him. Couple of more weeks at the drafting table and round 2. Asian dude musters up whatever shred of confidence he has left to go at it again. Puerto Rican dude likes what he sees this time and the rest is history. Even though I'll never forget what Bob did, I appreciate him all the more for it. It drove me to be better than what I thought I could be. Around the same time, Bob asked us to create a shirt for his shop. We did the now classic MLF design (Major League Footwork). Funny thing is, I don't think we ever used the word "collaboration". There was no such category yet! We just did this project together and that's it! It's rare when we redo a shirt from the archives, but this time, it felt fitting. The Bobbito Footwork classic tee...re-flavored in 3 colorways with the O.G. white version available. One of the few artists that didn't get an anagram cuz he's just that special.

colettetee.jpg
Sarah from Colette is a very similar story to the Bobbito story. For years, we sent Colette a Staple catalog and for years we never got them to order. There could be many reasons for this. Maybe we sucked. Maybe they weren't ready for us. Maybe Paris wasn't ready? Who knows? But it forced us to try and be better and better. And the hard effort finally paid off. Stores like Colette really paved the way for this new evolution of what a retail store is. People all of a sudden realized that a store didn't need a bunch of crap in it to make make money. Imagine operating a store where everything in it is what you're actually into! While today that seems obvious, 10 years ago, that was an anomoly. The most influential store in the entire world? Hands down? Colette. Who would you vote for? That led to the anagram we gave Sarah and Co.: TO ELECT/COLETTE!

raoulstee.jpg
Not far from Paris is London. And there is one man that literally runs London: Raoul Shah founder of Exposure. Raoul and I only recently met maybe about 2 years ago but we have a great friendship and business relationship. I think in Staple Design, he sees where he was when he first started Exposure: The raw energy. The limitless possibility for both great success and great failure. I see in Raoul and Exposure the future. 150+ employees. Running an entire block of real estate in London. Taking over small boutique agencies left and right, working with the best clients in the world. And in this, we see a little and a lot of ourselves in each other. Its cool to be able to do that. Raoul's t-shirt design was lifted from a small little eatery in the middle of Soho with the same namesake. Don't forget to always put on your RUPEE SOX.

hfxtee.jpg
The word "influencer" is tossed around a lot these days. You can influence someone to buy something, sell something, wear something, support something. But can you have an influence on someone's honesty? Someone's intergrity? Someone's modesty? If you are ever blessed to know Hiroshi Fujiwara, then that is something you will learn about him. Everyone knows how great this man is. But its not because of his business accomplishments. Or his posessions. Its because of how true to himself and to others he is. Imagine the innocence and pure excitement of a child coupled with the knowledge and experience of a wise man. Then you can begin to imagine what he might be like. I first befriended Hiroshi in 1998 and my life can pretty much be divided into 2 sections: BHF (before HF) and AHF (after HF). I assigned the anagram NIGHT/THING to Hiroshi because for some reason, usually when we meet, its REALLY late at night. He seems to operate best in the late hours. And also of course because of his DJ past. Its available in Black and White but look out for the White with Yellow edition that is a Japan exclusive. Oh no you didn't. Oh yes he did.
hfxyellowtee.jpg

Some people have said to me..."Oh this must have been an easy season for you guys since everyone else did all the design work!" Let me just tell you that I would rather design 25 tees myself than do this again. Of course it was a joy to plan and design with all these special people...but can you imagine juggling the schedule of these people's lives?? It was mind-boggling to say the least. Well, I did want to get one of my own in there. The anagram I issued myself is HOURGLASS/RUSH GOALS. The main thing I learned in the past 10 years is to have PATIENCE. Don't rush into your goals. Take your time. If it's meant to be, things will turn out the way they were meant to be. Like ketchup, Good things come to those who wait.

staplextee.jpg
Thanks again to everyone who made this possible!! PEACE!!

DELIVERY 3. (Part 2-The Pioneers)

I call this group of collaborations, The Pioneers for obvious reasons once you see this list. Words (whether spoken on typed) cannot convey the respect I have for these individuals. They were able to take their talents, and explode onto a global level. It is one thing to have a great skill or a good eye. Its another thing to be able to spread that message globally. Whether these guys like to admit it or not, they are great brand builders, like Nike or Starbucks Coffee. The only difference is that the brand they are building is themselves.

wktee.jpg
Just a couple of posts ago, I retold of how I came to meet WK many years ago. Besides his amazing creations, WK also thinks outside of any box you or I might even imagine. He is literally on the next level at all times. With his studio, sculptures, collaborations, books, and clothes; WK continues to be an inspiration of being true to yourself and holding firm. The anagram I chose for him was TRACE/REACT. His signature motion inspired style was the perfect match for this anagram. I love how he added a little CCTV camera in this design.

hazetee.jpg
There are only a handful of people who were in this game before people even knew what it was. Today, its all nice and neatly packaged for you. A few keystrokes and mouseovers and you're cooler than thou. But a couple decades ago, it meant blood, sweat and tears. And possible death. Enter Eric Haze. This cat can authentically claim Since Day One. The incredible thing was his ability to go from street artist to corporate dollars but always retaining his authenticity. Take a look at his design history and allow your jaw to drop. Tommy Boy logo, EPMD logo, LL Cool J logo, that little old Public Enemy logo with the man in the crosshairs. Yeah, that was all him. Pay respect to a living legend. I assigned Eric the anagram BACKWARD/DRAWBACK. His iconic use of arrows and stars is pretty much THE most ripped off icon in the artworld today. I am so proud to have a Haze arrow bless a Staple tee.

krinktee.jpg
I remember when I first met man the named KR at the original Alife spot on Orchard and Houston. He just wrapped up a solo exhibition there and I went the next day to check out the show in solitude. He was there adjusting some pieces and we just started building. Many people will take a quick glance at his work and think the man is an idiot with too much paint on his hands. But spend 3 minutes talking to him and you'll see he's on some other shit. After all, how many other street thugs do you know that manufacture their own ink! Complete with packaging, color variations and everything. If there was further doubt, check out his book from AKA called It's All In My Head. His specialty ink is unfadeable. Hence, the anagram HATED/DEATH.

codytee.jpg
A lot of people think everything happens in either Tokyo, London or NYC. And while I truly believe that if you're from a smaller city, its harder to get proper exposure; Cody Hudson (and his company, Struggle, Inc.) has had no trouble making his mark in the design world. He has done design work you have lusted after from Girl/Chocolate, to Burton, to Stussy, to AKA, to Nike. His personal art is also genius and I was proud to be able to host his solo exhibition at Reed Space a few years back. I gave him the anagram of TEACHERS/CHEATERS. He came up with this sick all over print design. His concept was based on his early upbringing of hip hop music with the likes of Afrika Bambatta and Public Enemy. His "teachers" if you will. But today, he feels like he is being cheated by what people are calling hip-hip. The 50 Cent's of the world do not resonate with him. Hence, the "cheaters". The artwork is a collage of different medallions these teachers and cheaters used to wear. I loved this concept so much, its one of the few I ran in 3 color options. White with Silver. Black with Silver. And white on white tonal.

easetee.jpg
You ever see a shooting star? It's pretty amazing. When you track the history of Jose Parla aka Ease, you are literally witnessing a star in the making. He is a true renaissance b-boy. Part member of The Barnstormers, Inkheads, colabs with Agnes B, Dr. Romanelli, Stussy, Takeshi Murakami, Celux, Visvim, oh and did I mention selling out his first solo show at last year's Miami Art Basel?
I recently had the chance to chill with him in his native Miami as he took me on a tour of his city. It was dope. This dude doesn't forget a single thing from his past. The mark of true greatness: Never forgetting where you came from. Ease's anagram is UNITE/UNITE. A nod to his style of continous line strokes.

skwermtee.jpg
David Ellis is the founder of The Barnstormers. One of my favorite artists of all time for one not-so-simple reason...he refuses to be pigeon holed into a particular style. David aka SKWERM is constantly evolving and I'm always amazed at what he is working on next. Speakers made out of gourds? A room sized catfish made out of vinyl records? Oversized robotic monsters? A latex painting using oil drums as a canvas? Why not? I had the perfect anagram for David: HUSTLING/SUNLIGHT. Nature is always a very strong theme in his works especially that of trees. Trees are the ultimate hustlers...of light. They take sunlight, use it for themselves, then make us puny humans rely on the waste product (oxygen) to survive. It's like nature's crack game.

All these are now available at Reed Space and other Staple locales worldwide. Again, I cannot thank the collaborators who have made the Staple 10th Anniversary collection possible.
Oh, I ain't done...much more to come.

DELIVERY 3. (Part 1-The Craftsmen)

Last but surely not least. The third delivery of our 10th Anniversary collection arrives at Reed Space and other stores across the world today. It's a doozy of a collection so I'm gonna expand on these in different posts.
This group I dub "The Craftsmen". I am really inspired by people who are dedicated to honing their skills...whatever their skill may be. They don't seem to be concerned with anything but their trade. I really envy that level of dedication.

phunktee.jpg
Just because you come from small places, doesn't mean you do small things. Phunk Studio is a design collective hailing from Singapore that does very big things. Its funny how all these different people come to arrive at this modern age of culture we currently live in. Some come via graf. Some DJing. Some via fashion. And some, like Phunk through hardcore traditional graphic design. We've been in touch for many years now...mainly thru graphic design nerd networks like Newstoday. Also, Singapore has been early adopters to our clothing line since Day One. So we were pleased to introduce Phunk to NY at one our early Reed Space art exhibitions. It was one of the most successful ones we ever put on. Their anagram is ORIENTAL/RELATION. The sign on the shirt means "LOVE". I guess that means they got love for their peoples.

matzutee.jpg
Matzu also had an exhibition ar Reed Space. I would have to say that in the past 5 years, no artist has evolved more impressively than Matzu. I must admit, while I was very happy to have the exhibition we did with him...with each passing year, i find myself saying "Damn! I wish we had THIS stuff!" Just because each year it gets that much better. Matzu was a professional snowboarding in a past life and a bad accident took him off the slopes and firmly planted him in front a computer. We have the snow gods to thank for giving us an artist like Matzu. The anagram assigned to him was AIDES/IDEAS. The complexity and beauty of this piece must be seen in person. It's really dope.

kenjitee.jpg
Kenji Hirata, good friend of Matzu, was the followup show to Matzu's exhibition at Reed Space. While many artists are like frenetic whirlwinds of inspiration; I would equate Kenji's work to that of a madman with a paintbrush—freighteningly intense precision. You might remember a recent Absolut Vodka ad campaign that featured his work. Kenji is also a member of The Barnstormers. He was one of the few collaborators blessed with using the word "Staple". His anagram was STAPLE/PETALS. Check out his 8-bit inspired full frontal design.

sutherlandtee.jpg
While we're on the subject of past Reed Space exhibitions, I'd like to introduce Andrew Sutherland (yes, brother of photographer and director Peter Sutherland). About 4 years ago, some New Yorkers might have noticed these ceramic-looking plaques placed around the city. They were usually depictions of a colorful cloud/mushroom type object and the entire tile was glued directly to outdoor walls. I knew of these artworks before I knew of Andrew. Recently he has been redefining his craft even further by making his own wood. Not that way perv...but making his own wood out of paper. Its incredible to see. Check it out for yourself. I assigned Andrew the anagram STAPLE/PASTEL. Whenever I think about his first creations I discovered, the word "pastel" springs to mind.

stinatee.jpg
Stina Persson is a Swedish based illustrator and artist. I first met Stina while designing t-shirts for Uniqlo Japan. I really loved her sensual artistic style and she was a real joy to work with. Her watercolor illustrations hark back to a historic time; pre-computer and Adobe Illustrator. But yet the scenes are distinctively modern and edgy. I gave her the anagram SECURED/SEDUCER because that's what her works evoke—an ability to seduce the viewer without even trying in the slightest bit.

More to come soon....

PAINTBALL.

paintballroad.jpg
(tucked away from civilzation...)

At least once a year I like to take the entire company out during the work week for a field trip. This year, we decided to do a paintball trip and blow each other's brains out while donned in head to toe camo fatigues! Good clean fun! In fact, it was the most fun and the best workout I have had in a while. I am still sore from the experience. It was crazy stressful too! I can't front...i was shook most of the time. I think every American should paintball just so you can experience 1/1000th of what it might be like to actually be a soldier in the army.

paintballcamo.jpg
(when not used as fashion statement, camo actually works pretty well.)

paintballgearingup.jpg
(the team gearing up for battle)

paintballheadshots.jpg
(wasn't there a rule about NO SHOOTING ABOVE THE NECK? wtf...)

paintballsuzfacial.jpg
(Suzette taking a direct hit in the face for the team. Afterwards she looked like someone gave her a hickey on the cheek.)

paintballtimbs.jpg
(Timberland x Supreme Field Boots. Held up like a star in these muddy conditions.)

paintballgroupshot.jpg
The squad...before and after battle.

Here are some recaps of how the warfare went:
Staple Design vs Reed Space: Reed Space wins.
Girls vs Guys: Girls win (and COMPLETELY shutout the guys 6-0...sad.)
Asians vs Non-Asians: Asians win.

STREETS OF NY.

I settle back into the streets of NY. Trying to beat the jetlag. Trying to understand what this city means to me. Or what I mean to this city. To me, for better or for worse, New York is the only city in the world that is a living organism. You don't just live in it. It lives in you also.
On my first night back, I'm walking home from dinner and I see WK painting live on the street. Back in 1998, a young student who was hand printing t-shirts at school (yours truly) was walking on Lafayette and Prince one late night. On the corner, he witnessed a crazy frenchman (WK) painting the coolest masked guerilla assassin next to a phone booth. A passerby came along and started into an argument about the ethics of public art, aka graffiti. It got pretty heated before he finally walked off. I stood there kind of as a third person arbitor of the whole thing. After dude left, WK and I met for the first time and we probably kicked it for like an hour that night on that corner. We've been friends ever since. It was nice to accidentally recreate that scene this night. Although this time, he was being shot by fans and professional media photographers. It's funny how times have changed; but in other ways, nothing has changed at all.

wknight.jpg

Speaking of artists...my friend Mike Ikeda in Japan has recently launched a new website called phofa.net. PHOFA stands for Phenomenon Of Art. And as you might guess, the site is entirely dedicated to the progession of independent artists. It also has a cool blog section featuring blogs from artists like Matzu MTP, Maya Maxx, Simon Taylor, Code;C and more...

My Blackberry Pearl died. RIP you piece of crap. I'm really suprised. I NEVER break phones. (Except for that Sidekick 1 which was a real piece of shit.) So I was trying on some shorts at Firmament. The phone slips out of my pocket and falls not 2 feet from above. And its completely dead! I now kneel before you lord and pray for the arrival of iPhone. I know this is simply a sign from Steve Jobs himself.

LAST STOP: BERLIN.

berline1.jpg

Thanks to the EU, its super easy to hop around within Europe. After a brief trip in London, it was back to Berlin. I always always always leave Berlin feeling really inspired and refreshed. It's like a charging station for me. For example, i even managed to dream up an entire movie concept in my sleep. (Any hollywood execs, feel free to holla!)
It's like Steven Vogel said on his blog, there's something about New Yorkers and Berlin. I think there's also something about Berliner's always being down on Berlin and everyone else in the world being in love with their city. That's a similar mentality I have with New York. I hate it here yet there is no where else I can possibly be. So there you have it. Maybe that's what Berlin and NY has in common. Steven's new book has just dropped (not yet in US) and it's really really good. Quite an accomplishment. Nice to see our culture professionally documented like this and all the different perspectives to Street Culture are very interesting. It could very well be the most times the word "street" appears in one book in all of printed history.
vogelbook.jpg

DB_Bike.jpg
This is something they should bring to New York if it were at all possible. Public bikes. They have these bikes all over the city. Its pretty cool. You register yourself with your cell phone and credit card. Then whenever you see one and need a ride, you call the # on the side of the bike and it unlocks for you and you take it for a spin for pennies. When you're done, you call again to lock it back up and away you go. It's like Bike 2.0. These bikes are all paid for by DB which is Germany's main transporation company. C'mon MTA...someone step up and do this.

hikmetnb.jpg
Also picked up these Super Team 33 New Balance's. I always saw these around online and never thought much about them. But when you actually hold them in your hands, its quite amazing. The fabrication is dope...as well as the packaging. Thanks to Hikmet at Solebox!!

biancajeff.jpg

bvogelakamaren.jpg

marlytalkety.jpg
I was lucky enough in my short trip to meet up with some Berlin friends. Steven, Bianca, new transplanted Allen from AKA. And also reconnect with some old aquaintences Marly and wife Maren. Marly runs the Nort Berlin store but is at heart a computer programming terrorist. Him and his company Movement come up with some pretty sick shit like HypeDiss and Talkety. Check it out for yourself. It's like if the crew from The Matrix were sneakerheads.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.

OK, back from Vermont and Burton's HQ. That was a one day stint. Oh you gotta love those there-and-back trips. Good for the internal gas. Another 24 hours in NYC and then right back to JFK, where I am now on a first name basis with the Hudson News ladies and its off to London. I haven't been in London in about 4 years since the last Streetwise One Exhibition. I had forgotten how amazing this city is. I think many people are currently turned off to London because of the Pound Sterling and how its basically treating every other currency in the world like monopoly money. Put it this way, I changed $300 US Dollars. I got back about $145 British Pounds. OUCH! Not to mention a ONE WAY ride in the Underground (subway) costs just shy of $9.00 US Dollars! An order of fries? Oh, $14. Seriously making New Yorkers look like we are low income bums.
But you do get what you pay for. An incredible city with great history, architecture, culture, parkland, diversity, commerce. I mean, I don't think I'm saying anything ground breaking here. London is after, well, London. But I felt very comfortable here. It wasn't like I was staring in awe of London. But immediately felt at home and settled in.
The hotel I stayed at probably helped. Nothing jiggy. Just a small simple affair called Ceasar Hotel in Queensway near Hyde Park. I highly recommend it if you're not making J.K Rowling money.
ceasarhotel.jpg

Sorry...ubiquitious postcard shot. Had to do it.
londonbridge.jpg

Not only did I feed one my ice cream cone, I also kicked the sign.
nofeedingpigeons.jpg

Kojiro from Headporter and Fragment was also in town by chance. Nice to hang out with him outside of Tokyo for a change.
kojirolondon.jpg

It just so happened that we were in town for the kickoff of Gumball 3000. You know, its that thing where insanely rich people drive their insanely expensive cars and drive an insane distance (Europe-Asia in 7 days) to reinact their favorite Burt Reynolds fantasy from Cannonball Run. Anyway, it was fun to see some of the sick rides. You can pretty much drive whatever you want. Even a tank might work!
gumball1.jpg

gumball2.jpg

Also met up with good friend Raoul Shah who runs Exposure. Raoul (or as they say in England "rowl") was just voted #1 in Guardian UK's Top 30 Ethnic Minorty Power List. Congrats Raoul!
(He would quite obviously be, the non-white person in this photo. haha...)
raoulexposure.jpg

I plan on coming back very soon. I am very enamored by London. I also discovered Europe's version of Jet Blue, called EasyJet. A very inexpensive and convenient way to hop around Europe. My next stop is my other favorite European city, Berlin.
easyjet.jpg

With all these thousands of miles logged in the air, I highly recommend what Samsonite has been putting out. Samsonite might have the dusty old rep of being your grandpa's luggage, but recent design developments like their Black Label Collection and collabs with Alexander McQueen and Christina Ricci have upped the brand status.
samsonitestuff.jpg
On the left is an eyemask for when you sit next to that person that absolutely HAS to keep their windowshade up all flight. This one is cool cuz it has earplug holsters on the side. Nice touch. On the right is a luggage lock with a cable hook so its much easier to attach. It is also TSA compatible. Which means no more snipped locks when Homeland Security is looking to swipe your PSP...er...I mean protect you from terrorists. I also just realized...What terroritst would use a TSA compatible lock? I think by using this, your bags are much less likely to get checked by security in the first place. But then again, maybe the baddies know this and use reverse psychology on us! Hmmm...the war on terror continues.

VT.

After 96 hours in Tokyo, then back to NY for 24 hours...i hop back onto a plane for a quick 1 hour flight to visit the headquarters of Burton Snowboards in Burlington, Vermont. While a 1 hour flight doesn't sound bad, its the hassles of air travel that makes it still suck. Door to door, you're still talking about a 4 hour journey.
Anyway, Burton and Staple have been working together in some capacity or another for over 7 years. Its a great relationship fostered by a simple passion for making dope snowboard gear and equipment. It's awesome to be able to design something; then actually ride in it a year later. In 2007, we embark on new project that I am LITERALLY drooling over. But the guys at Burton work so far in the future (we are FINISHING Winter 2009 now!) that a leak would really suck for everyone involved. So mums the word for now but set your watches for Winter 08-09.
Some flicks of campus...
