THE PRISM COLLECTION.

OK, I cant's contain it no longer! I'm very excited about The Prism Collection. Headporter is one of my favorite brands of all time. Not just bag brands; but brands in general.
Some background info: About 10 years ago, Hiroshi Fujiwara used to have a store called Readymade in the Harajuku area of Tokyo. Readymade's concept was all collaborations, all the time. It was a brand that was totally based on the idea of collaboration. One of the early collaborations they worked on was with the legendary Japanese luggage company, Porter. The collaboration proved to be so successful that the relationship eventually morphed into a full capsule collection dubbed "Headporter". That Readymade store would then eventually become the Headporter flagship store which still stands today.
About a year and a half ago, I was bouncing an idea off Hiroshi about doing a collection together. Headporter is divided into sub collections such as "Blackbeauty", "Brownie", "Tanker", etc. etc. But they are typically very simple, clean and subtle. I wanted to do a new collection that was more colorful and eye-catching. As with everything Staple and Reed Space do, I also wanted to do a collection that drew inspiration back to education and thought provocation. My inspiration was to do something like the old JanSport backpacks kids used to rock to school. I loved the colors they came in and that really durable ballistic high resistance nylon they use.
The colors used in this collection were derived from the colors of the spectrum. Everyone remembers ROY G. BIV, right? Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Indigo and Violet—the colors that make up the visible spectrum. I always think of Reed Space in a similar way. We represent so many different brands, designers, creators and cultures, that we're like a PRISM to our customers and visitors. Hence, we titled this collaboration, THE PRISM COLLECTION.
With 7 colors in the visible spectrum, we worked on 7 silhouettes...each essential to the modern day student/globetrotter:
はい、もう我慢できません。Prism Collectionのリリースがとても楽しみです。Headporterはバッグブランドとしてはもちろん、全てのメーカーのなかでも素晴らしいブランドだと思います。
まず背景を説明しますと、１０年程前に藤原ヒロシ氏が手掛けたお店 Readymade が原宿にありました。Readymadeのコンセプトは常にすべてがコラボレーション。ブランド自体にコラボという概念が根底にあったのです。初期には日本のカバン会社の Porter とコラボレーションをしていました。このコラボがあまりにも成功したため、その後も関係が続きHeadporterが誕生しました。そのReadymadeが後のHeadporterフラッグシップストアとなるのです。
１年半程前に僕はヒロシ氏にコレクションを一緒にやらないかと投げかけてみました。Headporterは "Blackbeauty"、"Brownie"、"Tanker"などのサブコレクションに別れていますが、共通してシンプルでクリーンで控えめなものが多いいです。僕はこれに対してもっとカラフルで目を引くような新しいコレクションを提案しました。そして Staple と Reed Space が目的としている教育や発想を刺激するようなコレクションにしたかったのです。当初のインスピレーションは 子供の時に学校で使っていたJanSport のバックパックでした。カラーバリエーションも耐久性がバツグンのナイロン素材も大好きでした。
今回のコレクションでは光スペクトルの色を採用しました。学校で習ったのを覚えてますか？赤、橙、黄、緑、青、藍、紫からなる光のスペクトラルを。僕にとってReed Spaceはこれに似ているんです。たくさんのブランド、デザイナー、クリエーター、カルチャーなどを取り扱っているので来店した方の為にプリズム（分光器）の役割を果たしたいのです。よって、このコラボレーションを THE PRISM COLLECTION と名付けました。
現代の学生や世界を股に掛ける人には欠かせない７つの必需品にスペクトルの７色を落とし込んで：

Each piece comes in one color of the spectrum. All the bags can fit into the backpack (if so desired) so you could potentially get the entire collection in one fell swoop. Details include:

• Nylon Waterproof Outer / 防水ナイロンのアウター。
• Supersoft lining where areas are in contact with electronic devices. 電子機器と接触する箇所にはスーパーソフトな生地を使用。
• All zippers are fully taped waterproof zippers. チャック部分は全て防水テープ付き。


• All-over custom printed interior lining that resembles handwriting exercise sheets we used to get in school. 裏生地のデザインは学校で使った書き方ノートの線からイメージしました。

As you can see, a year and half in the making, we put a lot of effort into this baby. Hope you enjoy it. I think you'll continue to find small details each and every time you use it. This collection is only available in Headporter Japan and Reed Space NY. It goes on sale Monday May 19th, 2008 worldwide.
